April 1 (Reuters) – Amazon’s cloud computing operation in Bahrain was damaged after an Iranian strike, the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, citing a person familiar with the matter.
Bahrain’s Interior Ministry said earlier in the day that civil defence teams were extinguishing a fire at a company facility following what authorities described as an Iranian attack.
* The ministry did not immediately provide details on thecompany involved, casualties or the extent of damage. * The report of the strike came a day after Iran’sRevolutionary Guards threatened to target U.S. companies in theMiddle East, including Microsoft, Google and Apple, inretaliation for attacks on Iran. * Amazon did not immediately respond to Reuters request forcomment on the FT report. * Last week, the e-commerce giant said its Amazon WebServices region in Bahrain had been “disrupted” amid the currentconflict in the Middle East, marking the second time in a monththat its operations have been affected by the war. * AWS is Amazon’s cloud computing unit and critical for theoperation of many well-known websites and government operations,and the company’s main profit driver.
