Jerusalem’s Christian Quarter Falls Silent on a Holy Day
War and security restrictions left the Old City sparse and subdued during Easter and Palm Sunday observances

The Old City was eerily quiet on Sunday, April 5, as Easter was being marked by Catholics, Protestants, and other Western Christians, while many Orthodox Christians in Jerusalem observed Palm Sunday under the shadow of war. Footsteps could easily be heard on the ancient stone as people made their way through the Christian Quarter.
