Duke is the top overall seed in the NCAA men’s college basketball tournament, with Arizona, Michigan, and Florida also landing on the No. 1 line. Miami (Ohio), which opened the season 31-0 before a loss early its conference tournament, got in as an 11 seed despite a weak schedule. They play a First Four game on Wednesday against SMU. The tournament begins Tuesday with other play-in games, including Texas versus North Carolina State.

UConn is the No. 1 overall seed in the women’s NCAA Tournament and enters March Madness needing six more victories to complete the seventh undefeated season in school history. The Huskies (34-0) are looking for their 13th national title and becoming the first team to repeat as champions since the Huskies won four in a row from 2013-16. PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Cameron Young finally has a big title to go with his major talent. In a thriller at The Players Championship he made a 10-foot birdie on the island green at the TPC Sawgrass to tie Matt Fitzpatrick. Young crushed a drive that set up an easy par and won when Fitzpatrick failed to make an 8-foot par putt to force a playoff. Young shot 68 and won $4.5 million. Ludvig Aberg goes from control to collapse in Players Championship
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Ludvig Aberg went from being in control at The Players Championship to a collapse. The Swede started the final round with a three-shot lead. He was still ahead by two shots when he hit 7-wood into the water on the par-5 11th for a bogey. And then he hit driver into the water on the 12th and made double bogey. He never recovered. Cameron Young wound up the winner with a 68. Aberg limped home with a 40 on the back nine for a 76. Aberg says he got a little quick on the swings that cost him three shots.
Denny Hamlin storms back to win at Las Vegas after early penalty
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Denny Hamlin won at Las Vegas to put a tough offseason behind him. Hamlin raced to his 61st NASCAR Cup Series victory, fighting back from an early speeding penalty to a dominant win for Joe Gibbs Racing. The victory ends a long hangover after he lost the championship at Phoenix last year. Hamlin also is coming off a turbulent stretch in which he won a federal lawsuit against NASCAR, and then his father died in a house fire. The win was the fourth through five races this season for Toyota. JGR drivers Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs finished fourth and fifth.
New union head says 2027 MLB work stoppage could disrupt plans for big leaguers at 2028 Olympics
MIAMI (AP) — A work stoppage that leads to canceled games during the 2027 Major League Baseball season could disrupt plans under discussion to have big league players participate in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The Major League Baseball Players Association is negotiating on the six-nation baseball event, scheduled for Dodger Stadium from July 13-19 during what could be an extended All-Star break. MLB and the union also are preparing for the start of bargaining in April or May for a labor contract to replaced the current five-year agreement that expires Dec. 1. A management lockout is expected to start Dec. 2.
WNBA and players’ union meet on CBA for 6th straight day with revenue sharing, housing key hurdles
NEW YORK (AP) — The WNBA and its players’ union are meeting for a sixth straight day in hopes of getting a collective bargaining agreement finished in a timely fashion to avoid any potential delays to the upcoming season. It’s been a marathon week of discussions with the two sides getting together for more than 60 hours since the first in-person bargaining session on Tuesday. Sunday’s session began around noon EDT with Nneka Ogwumike, Breanna Stewart, Napheesa Collier and Alysha Clark back in attendance on the union’s side. Brianna Turner arrived a few hours later. Revenue sharing and housing are still key sticking points.
Lindsey Vonn not ready to discuss her future in ski racing as she recovers from Olympic crash
Lindsey Vonn hasn’t completely shut the door on ski racing again. She hasn’t decided to return, either. The 41-year-old who is recovering from a serious downhill crash at the Milan Cortina Olympics is still trying to figure it all out, which she made clear in a social media post Sunday. She said in the post that “only time will tell. Please stop telling me what I should or should not do. I’ll let you know when I decide.” Vonn is on the mend after suffering a complex tibia fracture in her left leg when she crashed just 13 seconds into her Olympic downhill run on Feb. 8.
Jannik Sinner, Aryna Sabalenka claim their first titles at Indian Wells
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. (AP) — Jannik Sinner beat Daniil Medvedev in the Indian Wells final 7-6 (6), 7-6 (4) on Sunday, winning seven straight points to rally from a 4-0 deficit in the second-set tiebreak and claim the title without dropping a single set. In the women’s event, world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka beat Elena Rybakina 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (6) for her first title at the California desert tournament. Sabalenka, a runner-up in 2023 and ’25, finished off the win at the BNP Paribas Open with a big serve that Rybakina hit long. It was a sweltering afternoon on the court as the temperatures soared into the 90s.
