(SRN NEWS)-( ) An increasing number of Americans are turning to artificial intelligence for spiritual insights. Critics say this is a dangerous trend. Noreen Herzfeld of St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville, Minnesota says AI chatbots are too eager to agree with a person, serving as a cheerleader rather than a guide. These chatbots are powered by large language models, AI systems that generate responses by using advanced statistics and troves of text, including sacred ones. A recent poll found that while a lot of Americans are using chatbots to study religion, many also express concern that the AI might be misinterpreting the Bible.
( ) The WNBA’s Chicago Sky has banned Enes Kanter Freedom from their home games after the former NBA center was ejected from Sunday’s loss to the Indiana Fever. He was banished after a player on the court confronted him, apparently because the shirt he was wearing was critical of transgenderism. The WNBA has been the subject of recent debates on whether men who are living as women should be allowed to participate in the league. Although the WNBA’s collective bargaining agreement says it is restricted to women, it contains no more specific language about so-called “gender identity”.
( ) For the first time in nearly a century, Orthodox Christian monks have returned to Estonia. The Kirikla (kuh-RICK-lah) Orthodox Monastery is the first of its kind to be established by the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church in decades. The monk’s daily routine includes prayer, garden work and spiritual talks with the growing number of visitors from outside — including a lot of young people. Estonia has a very secular society, but clergymen say they see the first signs of interest in religion among young Estonians. During the Soviet era, the government closed the monasteries and all but outlawed religious faith.
