(SRN NEWS)-( ) Benjamin Netanyahu says New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is “fomenting hate” by calling the Israeli prime minister a war criminal who should be arrested if he visits the city. Speaking to Fox News, Netanyahu says he fully intends to attend the United Nations General Assembly gathering of world leaders in New York this fall. Mamdani has publicly admitted that he lacks the authority to arrest any foreign leader. The mayor, who is a Muslim, is a fierce critic of Israel and a strong supporter of the Palestinians. Critics say some of Mamdani’s past statements amount to anti-Semitism and accuse him of denying Israel’s right to exist.
( ) For the first time in nearly a century, Orthodox Christian monks have returned to Estonia. The Kirikla (kuh-RICK-lah) Orthodox Monastery is the first of its kind to be established by the Estonian Apostolic Orthodox Church in decades. The monk’s daily routine includes prayer, garden work and spiritual talks with the growing number of visitors from outside — including a lot of young people. Estonia has a very secular society, but clergymen say they see the first signs of interest in religion among young Estonians. During the Soviet era, the government closed the monasteries and all but outlawed religious faith.
( ) A Texas appeals court has dismissed an injunction that forced a Houston-area midwife to close her clinics. The court ruled that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton’s office relied solely on an anonymous email as evidence that Maria Rosas had violated the state’s 2022 abortion ban. The appeals court did not give an opinion on the validity of the accusations against Rosas. Paxton’s office plans to appeal the decision to the Texas Supreme Court. A spokesman for the attorney general says the appeal will also seek to “ensure clarity in temporary injunction procedure in this and other cases” across the state.
