Oct 11 (Reuters) – Kenya has not recorded any new cases of Ebola after conducting 293 tests since a positive patient died on October 5, the Ministry of Health said on Sunday.

The country confirmed its first imported case of Ebola on October 6 after a citizen who travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo died of the virus in Kenya’s capital, Nairobi.

• Tests were conducted on 293 samples from 289 alerts and only the confirmed case was positive, the Ministry of Health said in a statement

• In addition, 108 of the 122 listed contacts of patient-zero are in quarantine and have not developed symptoms

• The ministry said it was appealing to the public to stay calm but vigilant, and requested anyone who had concerns about possible exposure or was presenting symptoms to seek medical care

• Kenya is the fourth country to record a case linked to the Ebola epidemic in eastern Congo, the second-largest on record with more than 8,000 cases
