Jordan Arrests 3 After Church Terror Attack Kills 9, Wounds 34

By The Media Line Staff

Jordanian security forces arrested three suspects in Karak governorate in connection with Friday’s terrorist shooting at a church that killed nine people and wounded 34, authorities said.

The Public Security Directorate said the men were located before dawn in an abandoned house in Karak governorate, south of the capital, Amman. Guns and ammunition were recovered from the hide-out, Petra reported.

“We announce the arrest of the three attackers after they were wounded during an armed confrontation with security forces. The three suspects in carrying out the attack showed fierce resistance during their arrest and were seriously wounded,” The Interior Ministry announced.

No security personnel were injured during the raid, according to Petra.

The attack targeted a funeral at St George’s Greek Orthodox Church in the village of Hmoud, in Karak governorate. No group has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack.

Interior Minister Mazen Al-Farrayeh said authorities would hold accountable anyone involved in the shooting and were “examining every factor that leads youth toward extremism”.

King Abdullah II praised security forces for pursuing the suspects “to the very end”.

“We vowed the terrorists would not escape punishment, and no proponent of dark ideologies that divide Jordanians will be tolerated,” he wrote on X.

“We pray that the martyrs’ souls rest in peace and wish the injured a speedy recovery. May God protect and watch over Jordan and its people.”
