On the same day they designated his return to practice from injured reserve, the Los Angeles Rams announced a three-year extension for safety Quentin Lake on Thursday.

The team didn’t disclose terms, but ESPN reported it’s a $42 million deal with $25.7 million guaranteed.

Lake has missed the Rams’ last six games with an elbow injury sustained Nov. 16. Before the injury, he was putting together his second consecutive strong season as a versatile member of the Los Angeles secondary.

He has 61 tackles, 10 pass breakups, one interception, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 10 games this season after a breakout 2024 in which he amassed 111 tackles, five pass breakups and two sacks.

A sixth-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft by the Rams, Lake is set to return no later than the wild-card round next week, Los Angeles coach Sean McVay told reporters this week.

The Rams (11-5) close out the regular season vs. Arizona (3-13) and will be either the No. 5 or No. 6 seed in the NFC and open the playoffs against either the Chicago Bears or Philadelphia Eagles, depending on this weekend’s results.
